How can I protect myself from fraud and scams?

How can I protect myself from fraud and scams?

At MAJORITY, your security is our priority. To keep your account and personal information safe, follow these key tips to avoid fraud and scams:

1. Beware of phishing scams via text or email

Scammers often impersonate legitimate companies or financial institutions to trick you into sharing sensitive information. Here’s how to stay safe:

  • Do not click on links from unknown contacts: If you receive a message with a link, always verify it’s legit before clicking. Fraudsters often use fake links to steal personal data.

  • Verify the sender: If you receive a text or email asking for personal information, call the company directly to confirm.

  • Look for red flags: Grammatical errors, urgent language, or suspicious requests for personal details are common signs of phishing.

This is an example of how a fraudulent text message could look like:

2. Conduct security checks when shopping online

Before entering your debit card details online, ensure you're on a secure site:

  • Never save your debit card details online: This adds an extra layer of security and minimizes the risk of your information being stolen.

  • Check the URL: Always verify that the website you're visiting is legitimate by checking the URL. Look for “https” instead of “http,” as the “s” indicates a secure and encrypted connection.

  • Be cautious of third-party payment platforms: Always ensure that you're using recognized and secure payment methods when making purchases online.

3. Never share your card or account details

Your card number, PIN, and account details should never be shared with anyone, even friends or family. Scammers may try to pressure or trick you into providing this information:

  • Don’t give out sensitive details: Avoid sharing your card or bank information over the phone, via email, or on social media.

  • Only use secure channels for customer support: Always contact MAJORITY through official channels like the in-app support or our phone number or email.

4. Be wary of fake promotions

Scammers may try to trick you into believing you’ve won a contest or prize. Here’s how to avoid falling for fake promotions:

  • Confirm promos or bonuses offered by MAJORITY: If you’ve earned a bonus or promotion, we will automatically deposit it into your MAJORITY account. We will never ask for sensitive information like your account password or social security number after you’ve signed up.

  • Watch out for fake promotions: Be suspicious of “You’ve won!” notifications received via social media or email that ask you to verify your email or log into third-party platforms. Always ensure you're communicating with official MAJORITY accounts.

  • Report suspicious activity: If someone contacts you claiming you’ve won a prize from MAJORITY and asks for sensitive information, report the account immediately.

5. What to do if you suspect fraud

If you think you’ve fallen victim to a scam or if your account has been compromised:

  • Immediately contact MAJORITY support: Our team is here to help you secure your account and investigate any suspicious activity.

  • Lock your card: Use the MAJORITY app to temporarily lock your card if you suspect fraudulent transactions.

By following these tips, you can reduce the risk of fraud and keep your personal and financial information safe.
