To open a MAJORITY account, download the app, verify your identity with a government-issued ID, and add your US address and phone number — no SSN required.

Quick answer

The entire sign-up process runs inside the MAJORITY app and typically takes a few minutes. You provide your full legal name, date of birth, and current US residential address, then upload a photo of your ID and take a selfie. If you do not have a Social Security Number, you can select "I do not have one" and proceed with an accepted government-issued photo ID instead. If you do not have an SSN yet, see how to open a US account without an SSN.

What you need to know

  1. No SSN required — you can open a MAJORITY account with a passport, a US driver's license, a national ID (for eligible countries), or a Venezuelan passport extension (prórroga).
  2. You must provide your full legal name, date of birth, a current US residential address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), and a US phone number.
  3. The app has an address search function that suggests addresses as you type, so you do not need to enter your address manually character by character.
  4. Identity information cannot be updated after it is submitted, so double-check your name and date of birth before tapping confirm.
  5. Verification typically takes a few minutes after you submit; in some cases, a manual review can extend the process to 1 business day.
  6. MAJORITY membership is $6.99 per month and includes the account, the MAJORITY Visa® Debit Card, money transfers, mobile top-ups, international calling, and peer-to-peer payments.

What you need before you start

Gather 3 things before you open the app:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID. A passport is the fastest and easiest document to get approved. The table below shows all accepted document types.
  • Your current US residential address. A physical street address is required. P.O. boxes are not accepted.
  • A US phone number that can receive text messages. The app sends a verification code to this number during sign-up.

Accepted IDs for MAJORITY

ID type Who it applies to
US driver's license Anyone in a US state with a valid state-issued license
Foreign passport Citizens of eligible countries with a valid, unexpired passport
National ID card Citizens of certain countries that issue a national photo ID
Passport extension (prórroga del pasaporte) Venezuelan citizens with a valid official extension of their passport

Upload requirements apply to all documents: clear image, no glare, no photocopies, and all 4 corners visible in the frame.

How to open a MAJORITY account: the full walkthrough

Follow these 8 steps to complete your sign-up:

  1. Download the MAJORITY app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Enter your email address and US phone number. The app sends a 6-digit verification code to your phone by text. Enter the code to continue.
  3. Enter your full legal name and date of birth. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID. This information cannot be changed after submission.
  4. Enter your current US residential address. The address search field suggests addresses as you type. Select your address from the list to avoid typos. P.O. boxes are not accepted.
  5. Choose your tax ID option. If you have an SSN or ITIN, enter it here. If you have neither, select "I do not have one" to continue using an accepted photo ID instead.
  6. Select your country of origin. The app displays the ID documents accepted for your country.
  7. Upload a photo of your ID. Lay the document flat on a plain surface in good light. Make sure there is no glare and that all 4 corners are visible. National IDs and driver's licenses typically require photos of both the front and back.
  8. Take a selfie inside the app. This step confirms that you are the person shown in the ID photo.

After step 8, your information goes through identity verification. This usually takes a few minutes. In some cases, manual review extends it to 1 business day. You will receive a notification when your account is ready.

What to expect after verification

Once verification clears, your MAJORITY account is active. A physical MAJORITY Visa® Debit Card will be mailed to your US residential address. You can start using the account immediately through the app while you wait for the card to arrive.

Funds you deposit in the MAJORITY account are held at Axiom Bank, N.A., Member FDIC. Money transfers and telecom services such as international calling and mobile top-ups are non-deposit services and are not FDIC-insured.

What to do next

  1. Have your ID ready before you start. A passport, if you have one, is the quickest option.
  2. Confirm your current US physical address and a US phone number you can receive texts on.
  3. Download the MAJORITY app and start sign-up. The whole process typically takes a few minutes.
  4. If a document upload is rejected, the most common cause is image quality. Retake the photo in better light against a plain surface and check that all 4 corners of the document are visible before re-uploading.
  5. Watch for a verification notification. If you do not hear back within 1 business day, check the app for instructions.

How MAJORITY can help

The sign-up process accepts multiple forms of government-issued ID with no SSN required, so you can open an account from your phone regardless of whether you have received your Social Security Number yet.
