Colorful flags from the birthplace of Shakira and chants from Junior's fans were some of the spectacular details felt at the Grand Parade in the Capital of Florida.
On April 20, starting at 1:00 p.m., the streets of Coral Gables filled with jubilation as the Kings and Queens of Carnival 2024, Melissa Cure and Juventino Ojito, brought the essence of Barranquilla festivities to the heart of Miami.
However, the Miami Kings and Queens also made their presence known! Sirley Cardona, Álvaro Alcocer, Nashua Hutchinson, Hernan Orjuela, and Ricardo Pardey were tasked with carrying the throne on this occasion.
The Parade departed from the Miami Consulate, making its way to Ponce Circle Park in Coral Gables. Over a thousand carnival enthusiasts joined the celebration, vibrating to the rhythm of Colombian folklore.
Melissa Cure Villa, the current Carnival Queen, dazzled in an ensemble created by Jean Robechi, radiating happiness and vitality. Her outfit, adorned with feathers and bursting with colors, embodied the joyful spirit of Barranquilla's cultural heritage.
As a true ambassador of joy, Melissa spread the festive essence of her homeland on American soil. Her message rang loud and clear: "Life is colorful," a tribute to the diversity and vitality of Barranquilla's culture.
Meanwhile, Juventino Ojito, the Carnival King 2024, captivated the crowd with the moving melodies of his traditional clarinet, embodying the oldest dance of the Barranquilla Carnival.
His day began with a warm welcome at the Great House of Esmeralda 107, followed by festivities at the Miami Consulate, culminating in the traditional parade.
And to end on a high note, MAJORITY sponsored the event's finale with an incredible performance by Rey Three Latino with a surprise appearance by Kevin Flores, a Champeta singer.
At MAJORITY, culture knows no borders, and every smile is a testament to the power of unity. Let's keep the spirit of Carnival alive, one colorful moment at a time!
